365 days of celebration

National Trivia Day

Posted by Brittany

Here’s a little piece of trivia for you: January 4th is National Trivia Day! I’ve always been a big fan of trivia games as long as I can completely avoid any questions about sports. During my high school years my parents and I had a standing date at Damons, and later T.G.I.Fridays, on Tuesday and Friday nights for appetizers and trivia via the bar’s electronic NTN (National Trivia Network) trivia game. Although it has been years since they were “regulars”, it won’t be until later this month that they finally retire their “GIGS” license plate named after their NTN ID! (“GIGS” comes from the acronym “GIG” which stands for “generally intellectually gifted”.)

In honor of National Trivia Day Chris and I made a detour on our way home. Always up for a night out, we decided to grab a bite at Buffalo Wild Wings and linger awhile to play the NTN Buzztime trivia game. In a little over an hour we played through 4 games of random trivia with topics ranging from old music and movies, to nature, geography, and other areas of general knowledge. Have I mentioned that even though my dad might as well be a cartographer, I can barely label all the U.S. states on a map? Give me some calculus and I’m fine, but it’s like I have a mental block when it comes to geography, and in my experience this deficiency often manifests itself in low trivia scores and game rankings. Luckily, I did inherit my mom’s ability to remember all things literary and her intuitive nature, so I was able to win 3 out of 4 games among the players at our location. Chris also did a great job, coming in 2nd place 3 out of 4 games.

I’ve always enjoyed useless facts. You’re much more likely to see me dragging out the Trivial Pursuit box and lovingly setting up the little pie pieces (something about the little brown slice always makes me cry out “dookie brown!”), rather than setting up Monopoly even if that little silver dog piece is super-cute. After a long day of working I can’t really muster the enthusiasm to play a bonafide strategy game, but something that still requires at least a little thought illudes me into feeling like less of a deadbeat. Of course, there is always that perfect solution for the couch potato in his pursuit of knowledge: this……..Jeopardy!

Join us tomorrow as we celebrate National Bird Day!
