National Battery Day

Posted by Brittany

When I was researching our lemon battery I found out that some dental pain can be explained by a similar chemical process.  If you have fillings and you’ve ever chewed on tinfoil or a gum wrapper you’ve probably noticed it doesn’t feel very good.  Apparently that’s because the foil acts as one electrode, while you’re filling is another.  And your saliva is an electrolyte so it conducts an electric shock!  I guess I never really thought about why it hurt, but it’s actually pretty interested when you consider the science behind it.

For those of you traveling this holiday weekend, I hope the hotel hospitality staff leaves you a treat on your pillow — tomorrow is National Chocolate Mint Day!
