National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day

Posted by Chris

National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie DayI tend to think of myself as having quite the sweet tooth.  It wasn’t good for me, but when I was younger I would always make my mother pick up some sort of candy whenever she would go out.  I would even sneak over to the cookie jar when no one was looking.  Looking back though, that was probably something a majority of kids do.  Unlike a decent amount of children I knew growing up, I really enjoyed oatmeal cookies.  I think I have my father and mother’s father to blame for that.  If my memory is correct my dad went through a period of time where he would include a few oatmeal cookies in his lunch box.  My grandfather on the other hand would have them to help keep his cholesterol down.  For some strange reason no matter if it was my dad or my grandfather there was always this voice that would say, “Can I have an oatmeal cookie?”

Today’s “unofficial” is to celebrate a different type of oatmeal cookie.  The oatmeal cookies I referred to above were usually oatmeal RAISIN cookies.  Lacy oatmeal cookies are wafer-thin and typically accompany a scoop of ice cream or sorbet.  We found a recipe on allrecipes.com and our first batch of cookies just came out of the oven.  They will need to cool down for a bit before I am able to try one out for good, but I was able to get a tiny piece and from what little taste I had these cookies are going to rock!  As part of our celebration we are going to bring the cookies over to my parents house and share a few with them.  My mother is going out of town for a week and it’s been a while since I have seen my dad.  Happy Lacy Cookie Day Mom and Dad!

…….two hours later…….

Brittany and I just got back from visiting my parents.  What a nice surprise it was for them when we gave them the cookies.  We were able to enjoy our cookies over a nice conversation about work, website security, and how the horrible happenings of Japan are going to effect everything.  I wasn’t too shocked when my parents told us how much they enjoyed the cookies.  If you can’t tell by the picture today my dad was rather excited about them.  Success!

I guess I will have to suck it up tomorrow and sew…how manly….  Tomorrow is National Quilting Day.
