July 30th is National Cheesecake Day, a day to celebrate one of the most delectable desserts known to mankind. We briefly covered the history of cheesecake when we observed National Blueberry Cheesecake Day a little over two months ago, so today we decided to test our memory and see what we’d learned about cheesecake back in May. Chris and I found a cheesecake trivia quiz and quickly answered the ten multiple choice questions only to find out that we still had a lot to learn — we only got 6 out of 10 questions right! But if eating cheesecake helps to improve our scores I’m sure neither of us will mind practicing for the next test.
Today, in honor of National Cheesecake Day, participating locations of The Cheesecake Factory featured half price slices of their vast collection of over thirty cheesecake flavors. The chain also debuted their newest flavor today, Hershey’s Chocolate Bar Cheesecake. Chris and I both think the new flavor sounds delicious, and we enjoyed our experience at The Cheesecake Factory on National Blueberry Cheesecake Day, but today we decided to stay a little more local. I’m a big fan of T.G.I.Friday’s Vanilla Bean Cheesecake, so after we’d finished our usual Saturday lunch at Fujiya House, we headed to the “Friday’s” in Fredericksburg with my parents. We were all quite full from our lunches, but Chris and I were able to share a slice of cheesecake, while my mom and dad split a slice as well as another brownie dessert. The cool, creamy cheesecake really hit the spot in the middle of today’s incredibly hot afternoon. And, even better, it was a nice reward after a solid week of tough cardio workouts. And with a few pounds down and some new-found energy I’m almost starting to feel like I can have my cheesecake and eat it too!
Right now there are only four things I can think of that are sweeter than today’s dessert was: my pups! Tomorrow they’re going to get some extra-special love and attention in honor of Mutts Day!
