National Men’s Grooming Day

National Men's Grooming DayThe third Friday of August is designated as National Men’s Grooming Day. Today’s holiday was founded and is sponsored by American Crew. Since the inception of this holiday in 2007 participating salons and barbershops throughout the country have held special events in hopes to encourage men to buy and use grooming products, and proactively maintain their appearance.

When it comes to grooming, I’ve typically been one of the lazier men I know. Up until recently I preferred my hair to be longer. I won’t even get started on how much I despise shaving. While in college I once made a bet with someone that I knew I would lose because if I lost I couldn’t shave for four months. A few years later I think I made a similar bet/promise with Brittany and didn’t shave for three months. Over the past year things have slowly changed. I’ve started to get my hair cut a little shorter when it comes time for a haircut, and more recently I have started to shave on a more regular basis. Working in DC is definitely a motivator for me to stay on top of my shaving game.

To celebrate I wanted to do something I’ve needed to do for too long. I picked up a pack of refills for my Gillette Fusion ProGlide. I’ve been putting this off for a long time. I have an extremely hard time dropping $18 for a 4-pack or $30 for an 8-pack. And even though I shaved yesterday morning before work, I decided to give my face a freshening up. I was even thinking about hitting up a local grooming lounge to see if they are really as nice as what people say they are. I found out from a co-worker they are around $50. Needless to say he made up my mind and I will be gladly shaving at home from this point on.

It’s a little late for the holiday, but, tomorrow I have an appointment to get my haircut. I think I want to do something a little shorter than I’ve been doing lately. I’d really like something that I don’t have to worry about getting messed up in the wind when walking from the bus stop to work. Any ideas?

Tomorrow I will be visiting my grandmother with my cousin and his wife. I sure would like to treat them to some lemonade on National Lemonade Day!

PS – If you would like to see something really appropriate, and somewhat funny, for this holiday you MUST check out this website/product, the MANGROOMER (I haven’t tried this and don’t plan to!).
