365 days of celebration

National Beheading Day

Posted by Brittany

Tonight I celebrated National Beheading Day alone while Chris enjoyed a nice “guys night out” at a baseball game. I considered observing today’s “unofficial” by watching a program about Ann Boleyn or Marie Antoinette, but opted instead to watch a fictional story centered around the French Revolution, the 1999 mini-series adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel.  Set during the Reign of Terror, the tale follows the adventures of the “Scarlet Pimpernel,” a disguised hero who works to free those unjustly condemned to perish by the guillotine’s blade.  I remember watching an older movie adaptation of the story with my mom years ago, as well as the many hours spent listening to the broadway musical version of the story.  The three part mini-series isn’t as fast-paced or as flashy as the musical, but it is still a good bit of fun.  Unfortunately, I only made it halfway through the mini-series, but it’s a holiday weekend so I think I’ll have plenty of time to finish.  I may even re-start from the beginning with Chris if he’s up to it!

Tomorrow we’ll head back to the kitchen for National Welsh Rarebit Day!
