Today is International Shareware Day a day to recognize the the innovative work of programmers. Shareware, unlike commercial software, offers a trial period, giving you time to decide whether or not you would like to keep using the program. International Shareware Day was started by, actor and radio host,David Lawrence. With millions of shareware programs available on the internet, there is something out there for each and every one of us.
The internet is truly an amazing thing. On the rare occasion that our power goes out and we no longer have internet it becomes apparent extremely quick how reliant I am on the world wide web. For me it’s similar to the feeling I get when my car is in the shop and I am unable to drive anywhere. This isn’t the only similarity between the two though. When I am in the market for a new car one of the things I enjoy most is test driving the different models. When it comes to software I am notorious for “test driving” my fair share of different programs before finally settling on one. I don’t even want to know how many different editors I have tested out while developing websites.
For today’s celebration I decided to find a better FTP client than the one I currently use. I’ve been using Filezilla for quite some time and overall am very happy with it. The interface could be much better though. In the past I tested out a shareware FTP client called Transit. One of the things I enjoyed most about Transit was its insane speed. This was a feature I was definitely looking for when searching for a shareware FTP client today. I came across a program called Interarchy. Reading the write ups on the Interarchy website, as well as other sites on the web, Interarchy seems to have the speed down. Another plus was its interface. Interarchy takes advantage of built in sexyness of OS X’s Finder interface. I’ve only opened the program up a couple times, and will surely be using Interarchy more in depth over the next few weeks. A huge thanks goes out to the creators of what appears to be an amazing program.
While I’m coding away tomorrow trying to get caught up on a few things I’m working on Brittany will be slaving away in the kitchen. Tomorrow is National Noodle Ring Day.
